If 'knowing God' is what it is all about (cf Mt 7 v 22), then a failure to hear God in this way casts doubt upon the reality of your relationship with God.

I think failing to hear and know God casts doubt not so much upon the reality of one's relationship with God as it does upon its maturity.

You can be completely "useless", but still in God's tender arms.
