"I believe that God created me (and everyone else) to be heterosexual, and my BL desires (and complete lack of heterosexual desires) is simply a "confusion" of my God-given sexuality. [A pretty major confusion, but a confusion none the less.] "
Please be patient with me as I once again make referance to Jonathan Mills (Love Covenant and Meaning). Mills argues that the view that everyone is fundamentally heterosexual is a relatively modern one that has it's origins in the wirtings (esp Emile in 1762) of Jean Jaques Rousseau. Apparently Rousseau argued that diversions from "normal" hetrosexuality were ALWAYS a result of external factors and that if those factors could be correctly controled everyone would turn out nice and straight. This view has become the widely accepted standard of modern times. Mills argues that this is simply not a biblical position. Further he argues that heterosexuality, as he believes it is experienced by most heterosexuals, is just as far short of "God's ideal" or "created order" as any other "sexual orientation". The typical heterosexual male desires to have sex with every attractive female he sees and encounters. This desire must be brought into subjection SO THAT he can remain faithful to his God ordained plan of either marriage or singleness. This is true, Mills argues, of every man regardless of the type of sex they desire. Thus your statement from a Millsian perspective would be better worded: "I believe that God created me (and everyone else) to be either single or married regardless of our sexual desires, and my BL desires (just like anyone with heterosexual desires) is simply a "falleness" of my God-given sexuality. [A pretty major fallenness, but a fallenness shared by every other male regardless of sexuality none the less.]" This type of thinking SO works for me. How or why one is sexually wired the way they are suddenly becomes irrelevant. The path forward becomes simple and clear and a man becomes defined by what he chooses to DO rather than by to whom he is attracted. Blessings Cat. ![]() |
