Here Paul is appealing to his readers not to succumb to sin, not to return to being its slave, because you can be free. he's not suggesting that it is easy to remain free - but we shouldn't remains as slaves to sin i.e. unable to resist. The temptation remains; in his various letters Paul warns that we are still subject to temptations - the challenge is to fight them off. I'm sad to hear that you don't go to church; for me the fact that I have a number of friends in real life who are aware of my struggles and who are there for me when the pressure is on makes an enormous difference. For that is the true definition of church - the close fellowship with other believers where we can be honest and open, not just a building we visit once a week. Of course it's hard to find such people, though I'm happy to say that none of my Christian friends have deserted me since I was outed as a BL. But at least you've found us here, and I've found others here who have become good friends - I hope you will discover the same in due course. |
