but I'm sure that you need to make the decision to forgive your brother for what he's said. And no, not when he asks you to forgive him but before. Now. Yes it's hard. Yes it goes against all our sense of justice. Yes you have a right not to forgive him - but God has a right not to forgive you. He choose to forgive us by having Jesus die for our sin; we need to extend the grace that we have received to others. It's about choosing to forgive - to make the decision not to wallow in the sense of self righteousness that having this issue you can hold against him can give you. It's probably about saying it out loud to a friend (not him or your family - that would turn into point scoring) - or possibly posting your choice to do so on this board. It's about then living day by day or even hour by hour rejecting the sense of superiority that having this against him gives you. Yes it's hard. If you want to see hard, read 'The Shack' by Wm. Paul Young. But it's God's way. It's the way Jesus preached and chose to follow. You'll find yourself having to repeat 'I forgive him' to yourself quite a few times. Dozens of times. Even hundreds of times. But you will experience a growing sense of freedom as a result. It's an intellectual choice. Not something you feel you want to do but something you must choose in your mind to do. You won't feel like doing it - but you still need to choose to do it. Let us know how things develop.
