It is obvious this isn't a quick "A, B, C, D" sort of poll :-)
I'm not going to attempt to get into a lot of detail, but I'll give the basics. I grew up attending a Methodist church, but currently attend a non-denominational one. The music is contemporary and the dress is casual. [I wish, though, that they would occasionally include some hymns, as some of those can be very powerful. I am also not opposed to some "tradition", as long as it is "alive". Even "casual, contemporary, non-denomination" churches can become set in their ways, and can become their own form of "tradition", if they're not careful.] The majority of my beliefs, at least on the fundamentals (Father, Son, Holy Spirit, sin, salvation, grace, etc.), are pretty mainstream. I believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for today, but I don't believe we can manipulate God, and I don't subscribe to the more extreme charasmatic views (like "word of faith"). I believe the Bible is the Word of God. But I do believe we need to use wisdom and good sense when we interpret it, and I am not as dogmatic to assume that it is completely free from human influence (or error?). Though it has been a while since I have read up about the differences, I have previously concluded that I tend to lean to the Armenian side (rather than Calvanist). I believe that God gives us free will, and that He works in our lives (to bring about good) as we exercise this free will (in ways that honor Him, or in ways that don't). Blessings, Rainboy |
