It's a tough one. The other groups named, for better or worse, at least had gathering places. The gay movement started with resistance to bar raids and 'zaps' held at meetings of psychiatric and psychological societies. It was widely considered that previous, more conservative groups that attempted to show gays were normal, upright citizens, like the Mattachine Society, were not effective.

Art also played a major role, with movies like the Boys in the Band breaking ground, even though they were full of stereotypes. In Quebec, the plays of Michel Tremblay associated gays with nascent national pride and made Quebec the gay-friendliest place on the continent. It is also the only place that is less than gibbering-hysterical about pedos.

The demise of antisemitism, as far as I can see, was mostly brought about because of Hitler's sickening slaughter, which finally made people realize that their fun little Jewish stereotypes could lead directly to hell on earth. The reaction against this prejudice then led to idealistic students going down to help register black Americans to vote in the early civil rights era. So blacks also benefited from reaction against mass murder.

Not much of this seems directly applicable to us. Definitely, if you're a talented author, write that screenplay, book, play or song that pushes the envelope on the subject matter. How about a movie about a 17 year old who had sex with his 15 yo girlfriend and got declared a sex offender, ending up at age 20 in a tent city in a forest in Florida and leading an uprising, aided by a large group highschool students who go into the same forest to smoke weed. The students have been being helped out by the sex offenders at times when there have been accidents and other crises, and the two groups have bonded.

There was once a proposal that pedos who owned or could buy restaurants or cafes should look for a place with a separable room that could be fixed up and labelled "The Florian Room" (if I'm allowed to say that here -- "the Zack and Cody Room" might very well give some people the wrong impression.) People could be allowed in by prior arrangement or if they seemed knowledgeable enough to gain entry, on a strict basis that all digital and photographic media must be checked in the house safe before entry. Then they could be served milk, cookies and other thematic menu items while watching Suite Life videos or Freddie Highmore movies on the monitors.

Probably not what you had in mind, marc, but bear in mind that the essence of gay liberation was a bunch of guys hanging out, watching drag shows and drinking beer. And that went from hatred and loathing to legal marriage in one generation.
