I wanted to watch the movie but since they switched to a rolling release schedule and it wasn't out in my area when they initially said it would be, I read the book instead. I thought I wasn't enjoying the book. But then I was done reading it and found myself missing the characters and wishing there was more to read. I missed being part of their journey and seeing the albeit largely uneventful happenings of their lonely plight. Thinking back on it, it was a good book afterall. But after reading it, I couldn't imagine it making a good movie since nothing ever really happens in terms of plot and movies driven by anything but plot seem to fail. There is no dramatic arc, no buildup of tension, no climax, no denoument, it's virtually impossible to break the story up into a hollywood three act movie structure without drastically changing the plot. I will still watch it if it ever shows up at a local theater, but unlike my original plan, I think I'll leave my big budget hollywood blockbuster loving YF behind for this one.
