I think you have a good point about modern churches in the US and the serious lack of ethics they have displayed by dropping the ball on pretty much every issue except abortion. Whereas the church should be at the forefront of the fight for human rights, the fight against torture and extraordinary rendition, the fight for social justice and equality, the fight against needless warmongering and nation building, and so many other issues; They have chosen instead to follow one party blindly and focus on only two issues (homosexuality and abortion), one of which they are grossly misinformed on. It's sad and pathetic.

On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with the military. The military serves a vital role in society. Without them it would be nearly impossible to maintain sovereignty. You could work at a fast food joint flipping burgers and make more than what the average soldier makes, and at the fast food joint you don't run the risk of being deployed. It's unfair to those who serve that you disparage their chosen profession based on the actions of a leader that it was the people of the country who put him in charge.
