I was asked by a BL friend recently that exact question. What makes a good AF? I had to think about it a bit and my main answer ended up being Balance. Balance between being fun and being someone who can be serious when needed. Someone that is only good at being fun will never have a deep relationship with a yf (or anyone else probably) and may do the yf some good but not as much as he could. Someone who is too serious the boy will not enjoy being around and the friendship will fizzle. That also makes for someone the boy feels he can come to for serious discussions. I have heard of (or known) people who end up going too far in one direction or the other either of which can be a bad situation.

What one trait would you list for someone to be a good AF? Obviously another important characteristic is caring about the yf but I mean something other than that. I don't want to hear 'all you need is love'. What is a specific trait that makes someone a good AF. Maybe if this generates enough good responses I can point my friend at the thread to get more responses than just my own. I look forward to reading people's responses.
