Theophostic Counseling was renamed Theophostic Prayer only recently. Earlier editions of their materials and seminars have been referring to it as Theophostic Counseling since it was first developed by Dr. Smith as have most writings on the topic until recently. The name was changed from Theophostic Counseling to Theophostic Ministry and now Theophostic Prayer. Amazingly, they now make the bold claim that Theophostic Prayer is not counseling, despite the fact it had been developed as a counseling technique and they had been calling it counseling and marketing it as a counseling technique for over a decade as well as charging for their Theophostic Counseling services. I suppose they now admit to charging for prayer instead.

There has been no fundamental change in the Theophostic approach taught by Dr. Smith that might seem to imply that what he teaches is no longer a counseling technique, there has only been change to the terminology, so it is safe to assume that the name change and disclaimer are there for legal reasons.
