I think it's good to recognize that a boy's friendship is a privilege, but you can't just be totally in his debt. You have to imagine that your own friendship is worth something. Your attitude of being more a boy's dog than his hero is costing you in the long run. You use the word 'spoil' without reflecting that it got its rot-based meaning through peoples' experiences. You can't get away with spoiling boys any more than anyone else can (believe me, I've had to do a lot of thinking about this.) You need to shift more to being impressive, to being cool, to saying 'no,' to letting him come to you. You're an adult, not a sidekick.
