Here's a link to an article on the Richard Dawkins website. It describes a form of mental child abuse perpetrated by the catholic church, but it could include any church that teaches children about hell.

I have strong memories of being frightened into submission by this kind of teaching; that is to say, the fear of being thrown into the lake of fire made a Christian of me when I was 13 or so.

In recent years, I've come to wonder how a God of love could possibly be so wicked. This notion has caused me to look for God outside of mainstream religion, and has currently led me to look into the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses (the JWs dont believe in an everlasting fiery torment). That said, I have problems with their concept of resurection, problems that I shant go into here.
