If kids really started making progress towards equal rights, then there will be many in our society that will try to smear their reptuations. That is what happened to "hippies" in the 60s (it didn't work, things changed). And in that same era "niggers" and "uppity niggers" got the same treatment (it didn't work, things changed). And in the 70's, women in fighting for the ERA were often labeled as "men haters" and lesbians. But they made progress, too.

Progress comes with pain, but the rewards are greater.
