I find two propositions in the document I'd disagree with right off. Our Church policies on Child Sexual Abuse often talk about protecting children, but how can we really make true progress if we are shutting out the very people who are at-risk in harming them? What I see in this is the proposition that we, more than anyone else, pose a danger to children. I disagree. Minor-attracted adults must commit themselves to refraining from any sexual contact with young people. Such contact will bring about pain and confusion, creating havoc in the lives of both the young person and the adult. This is quite plain in saying that any sexual contact between a minor and an adult is necessarily harmful. Again, I disagree. ---Ford |
