I've been trying to come up with a cute answer to the issues that you raise, and it doesn't work. But I'm really pleased you're here, as I think you can talk more honestly here than almost anywhere else. There is a practical question - are you safe with 4of4, and if not how do you strengthen the barriers that will prevent the relationship going where you don't want it to? I think there is some things you can work at there; start to talk to him about what sex is about in the Christian context, and why it should be restricted to marriage - stuff like that. Of course he needs to hear this in such a way that he doesn't get a message of rejection. And there is the thoeretical - should you obey the church leadership in this area or the parents of 4of4. In the leadership's favour is the biblical passages about this.... On the wider issue of their behaviour, as a 'hot prot' who has in recent years learnt a greater appreciation for the Catholic tradition, I find it striking that they are using blackmail techniques which the Catholic rules of the confessional would make impossible. My own experience of this ran through a similar exercise, but in the end the parents' choice was accepted by the church, though as the boys were 16 rather than 10, it was not exactly similar! (The boys were told as well, and were happy to remain my friends, and are still a major part of my life.) But the wider question is what God is aiming to achieve through all this; as it is HIS will that we are seeking, not just our own. Certain thoughts spring to mind, but I hesitate to rush in..... Anyway, welcome aboard; I would like to hope that you benefit as much from being here as I have - for me the BL friends I have made here have made the past 18 months a very much happier period than any for a long time. |
