Neither I nor anyone I know has ever been denied housing because of our sexual orientation. And that is because sexual orientation has never been an issue in housing in any state in which I have ever lived. I have never seen apartments or housing ads that have said "No gays allowed." No one has ever asked me when applying for an apartment, "So are you gay or are you heterosexual?" On no application have I ever seen any question relating to sexual orientation. It's just not an issue. I think my main problem with your perspective is your insistence on the "special interest group" or "protected class" status. Why are you so insistent that it be according to your sexual orientation? There are innumerable facets to your life. Why do you focus so much on that single element? You are much more than just gay. Why not seek "protected class" status as an "only child", or "man with no sisters", or as "uncle to a handicapped child"? Or whatever facet of your life that also sets you apart from others? I hope this sounds ludicrous, because you make it sound as if being gay was the only aspect of your life worth mentioning. Why do you insist on the "protected class" status for a behavioral element of your life, especially a behavior that so many people consider offensive and immoral and most states consider illegal? Do you just enjoy being offensive? There is no law against being a homosexual, but there are definitely laws against homosexual behavior. So being homosexual isn't as much of an issue as homosexual behavior is. That is the part of the objection for many Christians. That is part of the objection for many Christian homosexuals who don't participate in gay sex. But then, morals are not an issue for you, are they? |
