Blue laws where I grew up were a collection of statutes, normally on the state and county level that enforced Chrisitan holy day observances. For example, where I grew up, one could not buy alcohol on Sunday, could not work on Sunday, could not shop on Sunday and could not mow one's lawn on Sunday. When asked why the laws existed, the invariable answer was that Sunday is god's day and we must keep it holy. |
