which I suspect I'm not going to make a good fist of answering.

I would not have a problem with my sixteen yo son spending time with any of you. (at least I hope he will be mature enough by then to be wise about his friendships)

That's an amazingly positive statement - which is the best thing I've heard from a parent visiting this site ever I think.

But I would have a problem with you mentoring him. Friendship and mentoring are two different things.

Hmm - I suspect this is a matter of definition. The phrase mentoring was what my YF came up with looking back on the relationship - for that 18 months or so I spent an evening a week with him talking and praying together; when he departed to university, I saw less of him, but we were still in touch on that sort of basis. It was good for both of us....

I do not object to your having YFs because I fear you will molest them. I object because you are not a family member.

How can I put this gently - are we not all part of the family of God? Are not all Christians in the same family?

Can you give me some scripture to indicate that you are not usurping the authority and honor that God has given to these boys fathers and mothers?

Three New Testament examples of what look to be YFs are Jesus and John, Paul and Timothy and Barnabus and John Mark. Discuss!! :-)

But thanks for making the effort to reply to all our posts and ask some hard questions. We need to hear these things, and it is very valuable when people who have such an open attitude to us come along and spend time here.
