I think in the current time of suspicion, to show any form of affection to a child is viewed as very doubtful - especially in church circles - whereas to greet one's adult friends with a hug is very acceptable. I think this a real shame as kids (and I guess us adults too) need physical signs of affection. Our role is to make sure those signs of affection don't become sexual. A small boy came up to me after church yesterday and grabbed my hands for a bit - I loved it, but I was very worried in case anyone saw and commented. His dad is away a lot and he has 4 sisters and mum - guess he is starved of male contact. Bill |
