So John was the "beloved disciple" how does that indicate anything sexual? Or rather, how do those words indicate that either were gay? I have heard this arguement many times and it sickens me each and every time. To suggest that either Jesus or John were gay because they had an obviously close relationship makes a mockery of the gospel period! In many respects, it much like the claim by "gay christians" that David and Jonothan were lovers! Please!

"but it appears to have been noteably physically close, and so does raise some issues....." Yes, perhaps it doe sraise some issue although, it need not!
I think many tend to view this relationship, just like David and Jonathans relationship and Naomi and Ruth's relationship through a 21st centry homsexual view point. There is nothing in the scriptuires to indicate that any of these people were gay or in some form of sexual relationship.

It is clear that they were all in close loving relationships, but there is nothing (that I can see) that indicates that Jesus, John, Noami, Ruth, David or Jonathan were gay.
