| there is the issue of quite what the nature of Jesus' relationship with John 'the beloved disciple' was. I'm not going to claim that it was sexual, but it appears to have been noteably physically close, and so does raise some issues..... I tend to want to argue in fact it provides us with a paradigm for physically expressed non-sexual relationship with close friends, and the reserve of some societies in rejecting such physical contact is sub-Christian! But we can't pretend that was a part of Jesus's lifestyle (ever heard a sermon on it!?) |
