I tend to want to argue in fact it provides us with a paradigm for physically expressed non-sexual relationship with close friends, and the reserve of some societies in rejecting such physical contact is sub-Christian! If a child runs up to me and wants to give me a hug, why do I always have to stop and wonder who's looking and what that other person might think if he/she sees me giving the child a hug? I agree; we need to stop the idea that showing love/affection through physical contact is a form of (or a prelude to) sexual contact. Forgiven, maybe that's why there's so many angry people in the world today? Maybe we all just need a hug? |
