City Boy: The Adventures of Herbie Bookbinder by Herman Wouk - Before writing War and Remembrance and the Caine Mutiny, Herman Wouk wrote this little gem of fiction. The lighthearted, fun, coming of age story of a young boy and his first encounter with love. Little Herbie is an inner city New York kid who becomes infatuated with a young girl in his class. From the streets of New York we are transported to the countryside where Herbie attends a summer camp in an attempt to capture the heart of the one he "loves". This is a nice book, light hearted, and fun to read. Herbie's love is portrayed as the "puppy love" typical of children, with all of its associated innocence and confusing emotions. Because of its lighthearted nature, you can read this book, have a couple of laughs, have a lot of fun, and not be bothered with heavy emotions. A good choice for someone who wants to do some light reading.
