the Ender Series - Ender's Game, Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon are all about boys coping with extrordinary circumstances. My own favourite character is Bean - not least because he is very similar to me. But his book Songmaster focuses on the relationship of a boy and the most powerful man in the human interstellar galaxy.... The boy is specially gifted as a singer, but is also 'beautiful' - and is the Emperor's special friend in a non sexual way. Excellent book about such relationships. |
