The first time I thought about it, I assumed it was addressing non-believers. Then I took it as figuratively meaning that we would be living in hell on earth, which I did when I fell into sin as a teen (never, though did I doubt my salvation). Mathew 5:29 would seem to confirm this. My whole understanding and support of a christian relationship with God would be leveled to the ground if a truly saved christian could fall from grace. My entire relationship with Jesus would have been on false pretenses. Not having to constantly keep an eye on my salvation, I can venture much farther into a close relationship with Jesus. What kind of wife would you want more, one that loved you unconditionally because she was your wife, or one that would only love you and treat you good when you threatened to not give her money? |
