I can see how that makes some sense. I disagree in your interpretation, but I understand how that verse can be seen differently now. However, then this leads to the question, if I cannot lose my salvation then does that mean that I am free to join a satanic cult and still be saved because I was saved once? Does that mean I can now become a serial killer, or a serial rapist, and my salvation is not in question? Suppose I was saved years ago, then my relationship with God became distant and I ended up following in the steps of Jeffrey Dahlmer, Henry Lee Lucas, John Wayne Gacey, or whomever. Then suppose I am shot and killed while resisting arrest. I still get into heaven? Suppose instead I become a world leader, dictator of a country and I follow in the footsteps of Adolf Hitler, exterminating a race of people I dont particularly like. I am killed in bombing run, I wake up in heaven then? How about if, like David Koresh and Jim Jones, I was once saved but I stray from God's true path and begin teaching things that are not correct, it gets to the point where I murder all of my followers and kill myself (like Jim Jones did), or I lead them into a hopeless war against authorities where police as well as my own followers end up killed. I still go to heaven? These are all extreme examples, but unless there is some point at which you can lose your salvation, then they are realistic examples, because the fact is that it has happened before. Jim Jones was in fact saved and was truly christian before he strayed further and further from God to the point where he was responsible for the murder of all his followers, can we expect to meet Jim Jones in heaven? I dont think so, I think there must be a line. I dont claim to know what that line is, but there must be a line. I dont honestly expect to meet most of the people I mentioned in heaven (though Jeffry Dahlmer is a different case, he was saved after his crimes and repented, and I do expect to meet him in heaven). Under the once saved always saved philosophy, a person who was once saved can go on to commit the most attrocious acts imaginable and still get into heaven. That simply is illogical to me, I believe there is more to being a christian (and being saved) than just the one prayer.

love in Christ,
Drifter
