How convenient but for who?

A union whose purpose would be solely to raise the children we both want. Hmmm. I would say this is a bit on the selfish side though I will consider that you are both able and mature adults who would be the best parents that ever lived for the sake of this conversation. Both I and the other person are aware of the risks (though she claims she would never leave me) and aware of what we would be getting into and the fact that once that came about our children would have to come first. Ok, so, a marriage of convenience would mean that you and her would be free to choose to see other people I would gather since she claims that marriage is not her bag? Ok not so bad if it remained an agreement between her and you. The trouble I see is that raising children in an environment where the parents do not show love for each other can and will effect their ability to develop a comfortable relationship of their own one day. In an ideal world (and most of us know this is not always possible) a boy or a girl will have a male and female role model through their formative years in which they learn about life which includes how to love. If their role models do not love each other then there is little chance they would learn about love. Much as we see the same thing with our dear Plato below, people can and will "change their minds" when beliefs no longer fit what they want instead of what those around them need. I am certain that you've every intention of providing those said children all the love and support they need and you have to give. So, think to yourself, "Self? Will this marriage last at least 20 years so that our children have some hope of growing up in a somewhat normal environment?" I hope that you can honestly answer "Yes, it will!" Oh and BTW, biblicly speaking, you'll burn in hell for doing it ;) OHP |
