ET + Billy Elliott

Both of these films were on TV yesterday in the UK & I had the chance to see Billy Elliott for the first time. Starting though with ET 20th Anniversary Edition - Henry Thomas who plays Elliott has always been a fan of mine in that film. I first saw it in 1982 on Video, but as I got older I grew to appreciate the film better. Henry is about my age now (30) & I wonder what he's doing, since we all now what happened to Drew Barrymore. Billy Elliott was a great film, but I think little is mentioned about Stuart Wells, who played Billy's gay friend Michael. I think it was very brave for a young child actor to play a gay 11yo boy in a film. Dressing up in girls clothes (quote: "my dad does it all the time, when mum's out" says Michael in the film to Billy). I have already read the threads on Jamie Bell & Stephen Daltry & saw the documentary when it came out on TV. So I won't go on too much about that, except to say that I thought it was great for the two of them to team up. Jamie's mum wasn't at all bothered that Jamie had a father figure in his life, despite Stephen being gay. I was annoyed at Jamie's natural father, who's reaction was negative. "I don't want my son with a gay guy", but "Excuse me Mr Bell, where were you during Jamie's 13 years of life???" (He left Jamie's mum, when he was very young.) On other notes, no further progress with my new mate at work, I haven't seen him much & am worried that I won't see much of him, before he goes home in a few days time. I hear he's lonely & spent most of the New Year celebrations with L, while I was with other work colleagues. Quite an interesting celebration, hugged loads of people, got kisses off two men (both gay, one who I'd never expect one off) & several women. All in all a good night, didn't get pissed either. Ginger has been eager to meet up with me again (sending messages via Rattata asking when I'm home again). He goes back to school on Monday, the day I'm due back (sigh), hopefully we can get some 1-2-1 time in during the 10 days I'll be home. Apart from that I have a busy schedule, visiting Dad's again, DX's 16th Birthday (wonder if his Dad will remember this year) & Eve's wedding. Forgive me if I'm gone for long periods of time, I shall try to post & catch up with replies when I can. Love Halo |
