to learn about Christ before they die, yet believed in the concept of an afterlife? I am sure this has probably been raised here before, but I have always wondered about this? Case in point being the different Native American tribes that existed on the American Comtinenets for several thousand years. They believed in Gods, and many of them (from what I have gathered through study both in school and on my own) had at least concept of an afterlife. Yet they never had the opportunity to learn about Christ. Ass in any society, it can be stated a priori that a good number of them led quite worthy lives which would (in their eyes) have granted them access to their own "Heaven."

In cases like this, would God let the manner of their lives speak for themselves, or are they just rejected out of hand because they are polytheistic heathens (through no fault of their own)? That sounds rather heartless, wouldn't you say? If that is the case, one could say that they were damned from birth with no hope of redemption, and that's a rather defeatist way of thinking, don't you agree?

Anyone? Has the Church ever stated its belief on matters like this??

Thanks for any help you can provide. It would help answer one of my oldest questions.

Ringo
