If you want a more accurate political view for our times in a Star Wars film, check out Episode II. Political leader takes advantage of strife to gain more power (Can you say Bush and his Patriot Act, among other initiatives?)

Not the best movie ever, but for some reason today's footage reminded me of the last few lines,
"Good news Master... War has begun."
"Excellent. Things are proceeding as planned."

I find the circular nature of this whole thing odd. CIA trains al Qaeida group to repel Soviets. Saddam invades Kuwait trying to take advantage of US tolerence to its war on Iran. Saudi Arabia chooses US as its defenders against Iraq. Osama and al Qaeida are enraged they weren't asked to help. Osama starts jihad against America. This results in Sept. 11th. This results in invading Aghanistan fighting the people who were trained to ward off soviet invaders. This evtra tension also results in attacking Saddam... again.

The whole thing is one damn cycle, and it will never, ever end.
