Ex-gays and recovering offenders

We've had discussions here from time to time about conservative Christians' attitutudes toward homosexuality (particularly in reference to the ex-gay ads last summer), so I thought you might be interested in this letter that was published in the gay magazine, The Advocate. The writer of the letter runs a ministry for ex-gays. The reason I've been so interested in this discussion about how gays and ex-gays respond to each other is that I think that there are many parallels (though the parallels aren't exact, of course) to how boylovers and recovering offenders respond to each other. I've heard the same sort of hateful language being flung at recovering offenders by boylovers (though not on this board, thank goodness) as is flung at ex-gays by gays - and, of course, the reverse is true as well. On both sides, there seems to be a tendency to say, "You're engaging in destructive behavior, so you're The Enemy." I was wondering what others here thought about this subject. Heather |
