"Who has gone up to heaven and come down?
Who has gathered up the wind in the hollow of his hands?
Who has wrapped up the waters in his cloak?
Who had established all the ends of the earth?
What is his name, and the name of his son?
Tell me if you know!"

Proverbs 30:4

Paul, God's name is a solemn thing, because it speaks of his character, and who he really is. When God called Moses to bring the people of Israel out of Egypt, Moses tried to get out of it. He said to God "Well when they ask me 'what is his name?' what shall I tell them?" God replied,
"I am who I am. Tell them 'I am' has sent me to you" ("I am" in Hebrew is Yahweh or Jehovah, depending on how you anglicise it). His name, "I am", speaks of his eternel nature, and that he is supreme.

To give God a name which is not his is like saying he is not who he really is. Paul, I think that is a serious thing to do. Would you agree?

Would you like to talk more about how you came to your understanding of God and his name, and about the church you were kicked out of?

Love,
