Laws vs. Principles

John - It sounds like we have alot in common including a photography hobby (although yours sounds like a profession whereas mine is just a hobby). Your distinction between the LAWS of the Old Testament and what I consider to be the PRINCIPLES of Jesus' teachings is a very important one for me as I continue to explore Christian beliefs. One of the big turn offs that Judaism has for me is these arbitrary and rather useless laws. By forcing people to conform (which they don't bother to do anyway anymore) instead of causing them to think, God turned people away from himself. Most of the Old Testament contains endless pleas for people to pay attention to God! The New Testament and the word of Christ (whether or not I believe him to be the son of God) speaks to me in a way that makes me want to change my life, want to ask questions and WANT to turn closer towards God. I am really enjoying the chance to share these questions with you and with others here. You are not alone. Ben |
