I really gotta move there!

A long time ago, I started attending a church here because the preacher was working where I worked (and, to be totally honest, he was quite cute :) and we became friends. I was about 22 at the time and he was 18 so we did have some things in common. When I didn't have alternate engagements, we would always ride to the church or revival or whatever in his car. In fact, for a while there, we became pretty much inseparable.

Anyway, when I first started attending, I had all these people coming up to me telling me:

"You can't drink or smoke or do drugs."
"You can't listen to that awful devil's music." (Rock 'n' Roll)
"You can only watch the most wholesome things on TV." (Little Outhouse on the Prairie...which was okay because I liked it anyway)
"You can't wear blue-jeans." (Brand new, never been worn before and chaffing my hips...actually I was wearing the ONLY decent set of clothes I had at that time)

At this point I stop them and say:

"Whoa! Hold on doggies! Now, I can understand the drugs and the drinking and the smokes and even the music and sinful movies...but what the heck has the way I dress got to do with the way I feel about God!"

"It's a sin. You CAN NOT wear blue-jeans to church."

At this point my preacher friend comes up and wonders what all the commotion is (church hasn't started yet).

"Well, Brother ----, these cher people dun tolt me dat I can't tend your'n church because my britches just ain't good nough ta be awearing in der." (I can mock these backwoods bumpkins pretty well when I feel like it.)

After doing a double-take, surpressing a smile, then putting on the most serious face he could muster after that--he said, "I don't care if you show up naked. I've been trying to get you to my church for months and if you decide you want to go, you come on in."

As we were walking towards the church, (I HAD to) I looked back over my shoulder at them and stuck out my tongue.

Does that give you the mentality of the Christians in my neck of the wood?

Yes, I agree with you. God isn't in the church you attend or the clothes you wear.

Peace! Bro!
