Is helping boys enough?

Submitted by BLues on October 29 1999 at 05:29:12

I know most here pride themselves on helping young boys out, making their lives more enjoyable, whatever ya wanna call it, but I asked myself a question today about this very thing. Is it enough to help a boy or is the contact, however great or small, with that boy(s) the driving force behind the wanting to "help?" Would it be enough just to know that a boys life was a lil' better even if you could never talk/see the boy? Never have any contact? I was at work today and some guy came up and asked me for a cigarette. I gave him one, yes...my crutch, and noticed that he looked familiar. I asked him if I knew him from somewhere and he said the word "Playstation." I instantly knew what he was talking about. See, about two years ago I was outside on a break and I overheard him talking to some other guy about not making much money this week and how he wasnt going to be able to buy his ten year old son the Playstation that he wanted so badly for Christmas. I had a Playstation at home so I sort of, in a way to not make him feel, you know, like he was accepting charity, told him that I had one and I never used it (lie) and he would be doing me a favor if he just took it off my hands. He wanted to pay me. I wouldnt let him. He was taken by surprise by the gesture but I assured him that it was just collecting dust. So, the next day, I boxed it up (I still had the boxes, even the styrofoam) and my two joysticks (60 bucks a pop!) all my games, which had boxes and brought it in for him. Just the look on the mans face was enough thanks for me and even though I probably, although I dont recall :O), hoped he would bring the lil' guy in to thank me personally, and maybe even give me a big ole' hug (yeah right!), I have to say that the way I felt when he today told me that his lil' cherub still enjoys it every day was enough to give me the answer to my question...it's enough! I guess we may call ourselves "refined boylovers". :o)
