Cautionary tales from the Crypt - i.e. my past

(A crypt is a place where lots of skeletons from the past are hidden, but if searched will reveal treasures which will enable you to prosper)

1) Adults aren't stupid

Earlier this year one of the people in my church who knows where I'm at told me that one of the female youth leaders in the church had approached him having guessed that I was a 'boy-lover'. This observation had arisen from the way that in the coffee drinking after services I was nearly always to be found in the company of the teenagers of the church despite having no official role with them. She had put 2 and 2 together correctly (it happens sometimes) but fortunately had approached one of my friends who assured her that the situation was known to the pastors of the church, and in hand (sort of)

Since then she has been affirming, although we have yet to talk directly about it. So sometimes it can work out....

2) Teens aren't stupid

On two occasions - many years ago - 15 year olds have spontaneously said to me 'I hate queers' very early in the period I knew them. In one case it was on a summer camp when I was 19 or so, and I haven't seen him since. The other has remains a friend who I remain in occasional contact with locally, and who at time has been fun to be around, but never very important in my life, but definitely a plus. Perhaps the down side of modern political correctness is that teenagers are less likely to say that these days, so providing us with clear guidelines as to what we can expect if we become their friends until the relationship is more untidy in our perception?!
