I had a very loud discussion (almost a fight... ) with my YF over how the church should relate to boys who like boys. I told him there were organisations which help boys who like boys turn into boys who like girls, and he said "good thing too, that's what they should do".

Then I suggested to him that not everyone has to get married, that the Bible says it's perfectly good not to marry. He didn't believe me, even after I told him to go read 1 Cor 7 (of which he would only read the bits that talk about husband+wife, skipping the bits about it being good not to marry). I think he was more threatened by the idea that some people don't have to marry than he was by the notion that some boys like boys.

He cried out "I don't want to be gay!" So I told him "who said you have to be gay? You can get married if you want to!" (how ever did he get the notion that accepting gay boys who don't have to marry girls means he "has" to be gay too?? child's logic!)

If nothing else, I'm trying to help keep him from falling into that horrible trap of turning into someone who coerces someone else to get married against their will.

And I still enjoy having him as a close friend :)
