Why do you think that a wrong belief is worse than no belief? there are many aspects of religion and spirtuality that are inerently unknowable or open to many different interpretations. They are mysteries I think that because of this, there are so many vehement arguments over religion that ultimately lead to the most unchristian of acts. It was this wrong belief is worse than no belief that lead to the wars of the reformation which to some extent still continue today in northern ireland. Everyone would agree that arithmatic is important, but how many wars have been fought over long division? Wars are fought over things that are important, but that have ambiguity in them, like religion and political ideology. How can you be 100% sure that your belief is the right one, you can't, just as I can not be 100% sure that my beliefs are correct. They require a leap of faith.
