Actually, that's a lot of waffling.

Do you believe that a gay person ought to be able to be denied housing because of his sexual orientation?

I think you do because below you state that you don't think gays ought to be a "special interest group." Actually, I think what you mean is "protected class."

Without that status, it's legal for a landlord or an employer to refuse an apartment or a job to a person SOLEY because he's gay. Without recognizing the class you can't even draft legislation to protect anyone.

In fact, without protecting the class, there is almost no way to guarantee that basic civil liberties are even close to equal.

The way things are now in many states in the U.S., a gay person can be fired, evicted, denied health care, denied the choice of a vacation spot, etc. just because he's gay. It happens all the time, all across the U.S. Those people certainly do NOT enjoy the same civil rights as anyone else.

So, your answer really isn't "no," is it? In fact, here is what you say:

You believe that gays deserve protection (and therefore special considerations) as a special interest group and I do not. You believe that if gays had that status, there would be little or no impact on the rest of America. I disagree. I believe that there would be a tremendous impact on the traditional American family. Not only that, but there could be a significant financial impact in the area of health care. I'm not certain about that because I haven't done a study on that to know one way or the other.

This is the same whining claptrap one hears from Christian groups all the time. Let's look more carefully.

To be very clear, we queers demand the right to be treated under the law as anyone else. We will not accept losing homes and employment and health for no reason other than that we are gay. We demand that it be illegal to harm us because of our sexual orientation. We can't even begin to enjoy basic civil rights without that simple protection.

So, if we became protected that way all over the U.S. (as we already are in several states), what would be the problem? "THE FAMILY!!" What a crock of shit.

If I have the right to not be fired because I am gay, I become a BETTER provider. My family would benefit. Not a damn thing would happen to your family. If I received health coverage through my lover's job, the premiums and the pool cover the expenses. Health insurance is not in the business of losing money. It almost never does.

So, what happens to your family? Absolutely nothing happens. so, why not just practice whatever moral values you wish and leave the rest of us alone?

You say that's fine with you. But it's really not fine. Because you want us to be able to be unfairly discriminated against - evidently because your god didn't grant us certain rights (though you haven't explained which ones yet.)
