The premise that love conquers all is a cute one, and one that Jesus Christ believed in and demonstrated. While some see love as a mushy, sentimental concept I believe that it is a strong guiding force that can overcome evil.

"The only debate is what 'jihad' means, and what are legitimate methods."
This statement is key to understanding why I would base my response on love rather than meeting hate with hate. Your comments might imply that the only way to reason with Muslims is by force. In my city there are faithful Islamic people who have condemned the violence of September 11 and who seek peace with their neighbours. To suggest that Islam is more or less "imperialist" than Chrisitanity is ignorant.

Dr. Martin Luther King said: The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.

Unfortunately I can't say that I am always able to meet this standard in my daily life, but I do believe that it is what God would have me strive for. To simply strike back violently is not biblical.

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." Romans 12: 18-20

Peace of Christ,
Bach
