Being 'out' to parents and/or the boy

Hi everyone. It's been a long time since I've posted. As some of you know, I was away most of the summer, teaching at a summer program for gifted kids as well as camp counseling. Then, soon after I returned, my hard drive crashed. I needed a new computer anyway, and after multiple shipping delays, I finally received it and I'm back online.

Anyway, I found posts by Scott and Forgiven about their personal experiences being "out" to a YF and/or his parents to be interesting. So I'm prompted to ask some questions about an issue I've thought about for some time.

What are ethical as well as pragmatic concerns about telling or not telling your YF or his parents that you are a BLer? When is it best to keep quiet, and when is it best to tell? Does it seem somehow dishonest or unethical not to tell? What are the advantages to telling? Is there more a sense of being genuine and closer to the boy and/or his parents? Is it helpful in terms of dispelling stereotypes? Are there any reasons other than self-protection for not telling?

I'd be interested in hearing opinions of both BLers and non-BLers.

Mark
