All scripture is given by inspiration of God. Before the flood, there was a belt of water in orbit which filtered the sun and slowed the ageing process eg Methuselah lived nearly 1000 years. Before the flood people were vegetarian, but afterwards God commanded people to eat meat, which helps counteract the effects of UV rays. The flood was a punishment for disobedience and the rainbow, which had never been seen before, symbolised that punishment by flooding would not be used by God again. The flood did not cover the whole earth as there were still people in other cities where the sons of Noah went to find wives. Noah also became drunk on the fermented grapes, which had never fermented so fast before the flood, because of the belt of water in orbit! I hope that perhaps something here has triggered your interest in considering that reality and myth are at the oppopsite ends of a spectrum. It is tempting to classify all ancient writings as a mixture of truth and mythology. The Bible has been the best-selling book for over 400 years - I wonder why that is? I pray that you will continue your search. |
