The reason I say the Christian god is a sadist is that he whole system is rigged so that the vast majority of human kind has to suffer and burn in hell for an eternity. Yet the Christian god is also supposed to be all powerful and all knowing- in other words he didn't have to create people in order to burn almost all of them. He did it because he wanted to. And I have to disagree about Satan being responsible for the suffering. Satan is simply god's agent, doing what god planned for him to do all along. Besides, it's not Satan's tormenting that I'm complaining about, anyway; it's the burning in hell, itself - caused directly by god, that is most troubling. The reason I don't talk about the positive is that there's so darned little of it. Sure, a tiny fraction of human kind, barely enough to be significant, subscribes to the salvation doctrine. That means that almost every person who ever lived is at this moment in time screaming in burning flames - where they will be for the rest of eternity. Forgive me then if I don't jump up and down for joy that a few are able to escape. I'm looking at the big picture - and the big picture is pretty horrifying. It certainly doesn't point to a compassionate or loving god. He ARRANGED the suffering and torment when he created humans. How is that loving? |
