"Abraham was a person who honestly sought to follow God's will. At some point, he came to believe that God wished him to sacrifice his son (personally, I can't imagine how he would come to that point) ..."

If I understand Genesis 22 correctly, Abraham's answer to that would be "God told me to do it". :)

"The point would be that he was willing to give up something he thought was as important in his life as anything could be, just to follow what he believed to be God's will."

I live in the hope that one of these days Christians will learn to say "no" to God. But I suppose as long as such people think God has something to bestow upon the righteous (immortality? vigour? youth?) they'll be prepared to sacrifice anything to get it.

Maybe that's the point...

Peace be with you
