The penalties for rape have been increased only in the last decade or two, and the concept of date-rape has only been introduced relatively recently.

If rape is an extremely serious crime, then this is because it derives it's seriousness from the seriousness of sex.

It is not possible to say that sex in general is a relatively trivial matter without trivialising rape also, since the very essence of rape is sex.

So that's why I'm waiting for you to say that rape is a lot less serious than it is currently deemed to be.
