Jesus Didn't Have To Receive The Holy Ghost…

… He was born with it. Luke 1:35 tells us "And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee; therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."

The manifestation of the Spirit descending like a dove (Matthew 3:16) was simply a confirmation of John's words to the people who came to be baptized that Jesus was the Son of God. He did not need to receive the Holy Ghost… He was the personification of it.

As for John 20:22, where it says, "And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:", It doesn't tell us that they received it right then.

The 120 were in the upper room for ten days, before the Holy Ghost came to them. They went the first day, and nothing happened… They went the second day, and nothing happened… They went the third, fourth, fifth… all the way to the ninth day, and nothing happened… But they went the tenth day, and the Holy Ghost filled them, and they didn't go back on the eleventh day, because they were filled with the Spirit on the tenth day, and there was no reason to go back for another day.

Jesus himself said, in John 16:7, "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter [Holy Ghost] will not come unto you, but if I depart, I will send him unto you."

Just my 2¢ worth…
