i saw the movie and have read the books. i agree with some Christians that there could be a danger here by making magick look fun and fascinating. but as long as the parents are in touch with their kids, there shouldn't be a problem. i read a lot of fantasy growing up, and was fascinated by magick, even went over to the dark side for awhile, but thank God for friends and family who showed me a better way. and now, having the Holy Spirit, i have found there is NO greater Power!! and not because of anything in me, but because of ALL in Him (Lord Jesus) for it's in His Name that we have access to this power and can do greater things than even Jesus did while he was here on earth (John 14:12-14; 16:23-26; Acts 1:8; Romans 15:19; 1 Corinthians 12:7-11) it would be nice if there were books and movies that showed the good side of spiritual power. Harry Potter has many flaws, digging into pagan myths and druid magick. the character himself thinks awful things about those who appear to oppose him. and for him to win and keep the sorcerer's stone (aka philosopher's stone) he lies about having it in his pocket. it is not a book about good versus evil. it's nothing more than a book about magick, where some people use it for more selfish means than others. in this way, i understand the Christian argument against Harry Potter. but, there are so many things in this world that might seduce our children. the solution is to train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Prov 22:6). who does the training? us. dads, moms, uncles, aunts, teachers, coaches, mentors, friends, etc. if we as Christians, have a YF who enjoys Harry Potter, we should certainly tell them about the true power available through the Holy Spirit sent to us from Jesus Christ. it's by no mistake that Harry Potter is filed under fiction and the Bible is not.
