... let God pick you up.

I hate to count the number of times I have failed God (and my wife, family, church) and, yes, it feels grim when I have to face the reality of my actions. If that was all there was to it, then there would be no Christians left because we all fail God in little and big ways.

All I know is that my heavenly Father is a merciful Father and if I return to him in genuine confession and at least the desire and intention of not doing whatever sin it was again, he forgives me. 1 Jn 1 reminds us that "if we confess our sins he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

But I know what you mean about not being sure whether you will be stronger next time. I am sure that if we are honest with God, he does help us and each time we fail and He picks us up, he also helps strengthen us for the next time. The danger comes when we just let it slide and we get deeper and deeper into sin. Then God has to bring us up short with something we won't like - e.g. discovery by the police or whatever!!

God bless

Bill
