An interesting situation

Amid national critisism of its policies, this new situation has cropped up in the Boy Scouts of America, where a 19 year old Eagle Scout faces being banned because he is an atheist.

The scouts also ban homosexuals, which has been contraversial recently.

Besides some of the nitty-gritty legal aspects of the situation, such as the fact that it is a privately run organization (Although I do believe they get some US Gov't money) what are people's opinions on this? The organization isn't exactly telling him to change his faith, but they are pressuring him and threatening him with something he loves doing.

Also, as an Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Scouts, he is deserving of some respect, as merely acheiving that rank is a testament to his character. The organization allows members from all organized faiths such as Christianity, Judeism, Islam, etc, and also allows those who simply "believe in a higher being," but yet they require some form of belief.

Should religion even come into play at all when teaching kids how to camp and such?

I understand that a lot of Christians feel that one of the duties of a Christian is to spread the faith, but is this at all the right way to go about it?

I know I've been quiet lately, but I have been reading posts. I'm not sure why I don't say much anymore, I originally came here as an extremely frustrated an enormously angry person afraid of myself, but as I've grown more comfortable with life in general, there were less things that I had to say. Hmm.
