A good meeting

I had a most wonderful day talking about BL Saturday with a couple in their 70s. He is a retired pastor and she is an advocate for gay rights. She has edited a book of faith stories of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people which was published recently. I had been emailing them for some time, but this was the first time I met them in person. I met them along with another BLer who has been a long time friend of theirs, but who didn't come out as a BLer to them until recently. It was great to get to know this couple, and to see their acceptance, thoughtfulness, and desire to learn. The other BLer and I told her all about RDC and CBF, and she seemed impressed with how we are dealing with things. I also gave her a copy of Heather's article "Not an Oxymoron" and the "Pedophilia and Christianity" FAQ. Of course, they both said that any sexual activity with a minor would be harmful. But then they also said that sex is a good gift from God. I had to ask how that can be true for BLers, and of course they had no answer. I have been reading her book, and every story in it seems to be based on the premise that the way to be liberated from shame and to accept oneself is to be open to expressing one's orientation emotionally and sexually with another person. So I suppose BL poses a real dilemma for her. She said she sees BL as an aspect of homosexuality (as opposed as a completely different issue). I am looking forward to meeting with them again some day for more discussions. --Julius |
